  1. Edward Rochester from JANE EYRE. Been in love with him since I first picked up the novel back in 1992-ish.

Sgt. Mike Flannigan from MRS. MIKE. Benedict and Nancy Freedman are consummate story tellers and Mike was one helluva hunk, especially to the middle school-aged me. Our school librarian must’ve loved him, too, because she never batted an eye each time I (re)checked out that book!

Captain Wentworth from PERSUASION. I met him much later in life and was struck by his sincere and undying devotion to Anne.

Gilbert Blythe from ANNE OF GREEN GABLES (et al). Until my dying day, I will want him to pull at my pigtails and call me ‘Carrots.’

Gilbert Markham from THE TENANT OF WILDFELL HALL. I think had I read this first, instead of JANE EYRE, this man would’ve been my standard and thus saved me a ton of heartache.
