What books have I read this month?
The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman
I loved reading this series, and it reunited my love for new worlds and children’s fantasy literature. There were times when I got slightly confused but I managed to keep up with most of it and really liked the ending, even though it was heartbreaking!
Notes on a Nervous Planet by Matt Haig
I will definitely be keeping my copy of this book! I read it cover to cover, but it’s a great book to dip in and out of depending on how you’re feeling and whether you want a pick me up or some reassurance that you’re not alone.
Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson
This book was absolutely incredible, and is such an incredible contribution to the corner of the literary world that is YA mystery crime novels. I was constantly on the edge of my seat and found it so hard to put down!
The Vanishing Stair by Maureen Johnson
The sequel was no different, something unexpected on every page and had me up late at night wanting to find out what happens! I perfectly timed reading this series as the third book has just been released, so I want to get my hands on it as soon as possible and find out how it all ends, and I can’t wait!
What am I currently reading?
Vox by Christina Dalcher
A reimagined The Handmaid’s Tale, and there are definitely similarities in the way the two dystopian worlds have been constructed, but there are subtle differences which I’m hoping will turn into a plot line which be differentiated from its muse. So far, it’s accomplished what I believe would be the desired affect: making the reader angry and frustrated and spark deep feminist conversations.
