Weekly Wednesday Update #24

Untitled

Hello fellow bookworms and welcome to another installment of Weekly Wednesday Update! I’m really sorry there wasn’t a Top Ten Tuesday post yesterday, I have been so busy this week pacing and preparing for my move to university on Saturday ( there will not be A Quote For The Weekend post this week due to this). Anyway, I hope I make up for my lack of posts with an amazing update this week!

Currently Reading:

Catcher In The Rye (J.D. Salinger)

I’m slowly getting into this, it’s quite good so far, and the book is quite shot anyway, so I’m more using it as a filler for larger books. A straightforward and simple story to get into!

The Young Elites by Marie Lu

the young elites

So I took a quiz on BuzzFeed (admit it, you all do it and get the weekly book newsletter!) about what book I should read if I enjoyed certain TV shows. I cannot remember for the life of me what TV show it was, but it led me to The Young Elites. After reading the description, it sounded like quite a good YA book at the start of a series, so I thought I would revisit my Hunger Games/Divergent phase!

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

we were liars

I may have added and re-added this book to my TBR, but the description is just so vague and a lot of people have just said to go into it open minded and prepared for anything. I have absolutely no idea what this book could be about which could be quite an exciting adventure!

A Man Called Ove by Fredrick Backman

18774964

This has been shortlisted on Richard and Judy’s book club list, and I have been close to buying and reading it so many times, but I never have. A feel good story about a grumpy old man, the description makes the plot sound so heartwarming I thought I would give it a go.

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

15745753

I have heard great great things about this book, and how it is a like a crossover of all of the really popular YA novels back when I read a lot more YA a few years ago. I feel like I am missing out having not read this book!

Upcoming Reviews

I am rethinking my schedule so I can fit around my studying, so I will not be posting a lot to begin with in the next few weeks, but do not despair, I still have a book review to write for The Other Me, and will keep my review regular, as well as Top Ten Tuesday and Weekly Wednesday Update as well.

Weekly Wednesday Update #23

Untitled

Hello fellow bookworms and welcome to another installment to Weekly Wednesday Update! It’s my last week at work this week (hooray) and then I move into university next week :O Also, I cannot believe I’ve been blogging for 6 months now!! Hope you enjoy this weeks post!

Currently Reading:

The Other Me (Saskia Sarginson)

This book is absolutely amazing!! It’s a very subtle thriller/mystery book, but I love the dance element in the story as well, it makes me want to continue dancing all the time!!

New Additions to Goodreads Shelves:

To Be Read

The Fire Sermon by Francessca Haig

18109771

I found this in Waterstones, and I was captured by the description. This sounds absolutely amazing and I cannot wait to get started!

A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin

13496

Sooooo many people have read this series and watched it on TV, but I am completely clueless, so I figured I would give the first book a try.

Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll

22609317

Another one I’ve seen online and in bookstores, it’s highly recommended by a lot of authors so it must be pretty good!

The Boy Most Likely To by Huntley Fitzpatrick

18392495

Not the typical book I would read, but looks like quite a light story line and might be nice to read when I get stressed whilst studying at uni!

Upcoming Reviews

I will be reviewing Go Set A Watchman very soon, so hopefully that will be published later this week, and look out for the final installment of BookMuffin’s Beginner’s Guide on Becoming a Good Student tomorrow!

Weekly Wednesday Update #22

Untitled

Hello fellow bookworms and welcome to another installment of my Weekly Wednesday Update. I have *finally* managed to finish Go Set A Watchman, which I did struggle through and did not enjoy as much as TKAM. I am starting a new read today, which I am very excited about!

Currently Reading:

The Other Me (Saskia Sarginson)

This is an approved request from Net Galley that I have had sitting on my Kindle for a while now. The story sounds like the mystery thriller type that I’m really enjoying reading right now so fingers crossed I will like this one!

New Additions to Goodreads Shelves:

To Be Read

Dark Places by Gillian Flynn

6569735

This was recommended to me after I wrote my review for Gone Girl and, because I enjoyed Flynn’s writing so much, I thought I would read more of her work.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

16068905

I’ve never read Rowell’s work and I have head from a lot of people that she writes some good stuff. My sister owns this book, so I thought it would be a good place to start. I may also like to read Eleanor & Park…

More Than This by Patrick Ness

21969786

This book has been on and off my TBR list for as long as I can remember, and I’m thinking it’s maybe time I stopped pondering and just read it!

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

9460487

I have heard so many amazing things about this book, and I know there is a sequel as well, so I think I should jump on the band wagon and read it

We Are Not Ourselves by Matthew Thomas

17830123

I had seen this advertised in many bookshop windows, but I had never properly read the description until the other day. The idea sounded fascinating and I can’t wait to read it!

Upcoming Reviews

As I mentioned, I have finished Go Set A Watchman so I will be reviewing that hopefully tomorrow, along the fourth installment of BookMuffin’s Beginners Guide on becoming a Good Student!

Weekly Wednesday Update #21

Untitled

Good morning fellow bookworms! Another weekly update for you today, I have finally caught up on my ARC reading, just my NetGalley approvals to get through before I am completely up to date, but seeing as they aren’t too urgent, I’m taking some more time to do some personal reading before I leave for university.

Currently Reading:

Go Set A Watchman (Harper Lee)

I started this late on Sunday and I’m about half way through now. I’m not loving at much as To Kill A Mockingbird, and I can kind of see why it wasn’t published before it went missing, but I am still enjoying being back with the characters in Maycomb County!

New Additions to Goodreads Shelves:

To Be Read

You Should Have Known by Jean Hanff Korelitz

17454929

I found this on Goodreads and felt I had neglected my TBR list for a while. I loved the simplicity of the front cover, and the mystery/thriller description made me attracted to this title.

The Deepest Secret by Carla Buckley

18248415

This sounded amazing!! Another mystery suspense book about a young boy and his family, and the struggles and secrets that come with rare medical condition.

The Walls Around Us by Nova Ren Suma

22859565

I was a bit unsure about this one, but it had a pretty good average star rating, so I thought I would add it just in case I was short of ideas of books to read… (if ever!) Sounded kind of similar to The Rabbit Back Literature Society

Upcoming Reviews

I recently finished my final author review copy, ‘Awake’, which I will be reviewing either today or tomorrow. Also, BookMuffin’s Beginners Guide on Becoming a Good Student: Week 3 will be up tomorrow, followed by the usual on Friday and Saturday, so keep an eye out for those 🙂

Weekly Wednesday Update #20

Hello fellow bookworms! Another Weekly Wednesday Update here and I know I still have a lot to do, with reviews and posts, but I am trying to keep you all in the loop, but unfortunately it is a very busy time for me at the moment, and I am doing my very best to try and keep up, so please hang in there and keep reading!

Currently Reading:

Awake (Melanie Surani)

I AM HOOKED!! This book is incredible so far, it’s just so mysterious and thrilling which is just what I’m looking for in these types of books! Every word makes me want to read more, and cliff hangers at the ends of chapters are cutting into my sleeping time, but I really don’t care because I just have to know what happens!

Stop Stealing Sheep and Find Out How Type Works by Erik Spiekermann

18058158

So the joys of summer reading has arrived at last, it’s just not the summer reading I would’ve like to have! As I prepare for university, I am cramming as much information into my head as humanly possible before my course starts. I need to find this book somewhere so I can start reading, but textbooks are just soooo expensive!

How To Be a Graphic Designer Without Losing Your Soul by Adrian Shaughnessy

8480144

And another joyous textbook… but don’t worry, I’m not planning on losing my soul!

Graphic Design: A Concise History by Richard Hollis

2778

This is the only textbook on my reading list that I currently own. when I started reading (the introduction, that is), my first thought was ‘Oh my gosh what have I gotten myself into!’

The Last Good Day of the Year by Jessica Warman

25566441

I found this on Goodreads and it sounded like an amazing thriller, and I have heard that Warman is a very good story teller, so I cannot wait to get started on some of her books!

Upcoming Reviews

Finally, Gone Girl and The Time Traveler’s Wife reviews are on their way TODAY! Also, watch out for another installment of BookMuffin’s Beginners Guide on Becoming a Good Student tomorrow and Feature Follow on Friday!!

Weekly Wednesday Update #19

Untitled

Good morning my fellow bookworms. I am back on schedule now and ready to share a few bookish updates from the past week.

Currently Reading:

Echo (Lorena Glass)

This is a book I received in exchange for a review. I’ve only just started it, and I’m trying to get into it, but I’m really not enjoying it so far. I’m hoping things will start to pick up because it has the potential to be a great book!

New Additions to Goodreads Shelves:

To Be Read

The Sky Is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson

23168945

I’ve heard good things about Jandy Nelson books, especially I’ll Give You The Sun, so I thought I would try one of her books. I liked the sound of the description of this one, although I admit it was the cover art that caught me to begin with…

Amy & Matthew by Cammie McGovern

23837894

Some of you might know this as Say What You Will, but Amy & Matthew is what it was published as in the UK. This sounds like a perfectly flawed love story, a great YA novel that I cannot wait to read!

Upcoming Reviews

I still need to review Gone Girl that I finished over two weeks ago(!) and I finished The Time Traveler’s Wife yesterday as well so look out for those two reviews. The Pinterest Collective will be on a short break as I do my BookMuffin’s Beginners Guide on Becoming a Good Student, which I have decided to start tomorrow, so if you are planning to start college/university, or just want to be a more organised student, then check out that post coming tomorrow!

Weekly Wednesday Update #18

Untitled

First Weekly Update after holiday!! Welcome back my fellow bookworms. I have added a lot to my TBR shelf recently, so this post is quite a long one, so be prepared!

Currently Reading:

The Time Traveler’s Wife (Audrey Niffenegger)

I am really enjoying this book! I have absolutely fallen in love with Henry DeTamble, but unfortunately I spoilt the ending for myself, which makes me really sad!

Echo (Lorena Glass)

I haven’t got far into this, but it’s another book about time travel, so I hope I will enjoy it just as much as The Time Traveler’s Wife!

New Additions to Goodreads Shelves:

The Bone Clocks by David Mitchell

the bone clocks

This is the new book from David Mitchell, author of Cloud Atlas (which I haven’t read!) but I have heard good things about Mitchell and this book sounds amazing so I’m hoping it will live up to my expectations.

Confessions by Kanae Minato

confessions

It was the description that really took me with this book. There has been a lot of issues on the news recently about teacher abuse, and I think this sounds like a very interesting topic to read that I haven’t yet got round to!

Twisted by Holly Hook

twisted

This was another book I found on Goodreads where the description grabbed my attention. This is hopefully going to be a ‘don’t judge a book by it’s cover’!

Her by Harriet Lane

her

I saw this a few months ago when it first came out in Waterstones when I was out shopping, but it didn’t really appeal to me. I then found it in a second hand book store on holiday and, for the price I paid, I didn’t think it was a bad deal. I had re read the description and, being in the middle of reading Gone Girl at the time, I was attracted to thrillers like this one!

Dangerous Reflections by Shay West

dangerous reflections

After reading Organ Reapers by the same author, I absolutely loved West’s writing! I was offered this in exchange for an honest review, but unfortunately, I’m not taking any at the moment due to the large amount I already have to get through! I definitely want to read this eventually though.

Soul Reapers by Shay West

[no cover available]

Yet another Shay West novel, following on from Organ Reapers which I thoroughly enjoyed! Looking forward to another Eli and Ava adventure!

Upcoming Reviews

I am due to write 2 reviews for the personal reading I did on holiday: Will Grayson, Will Grayson and Gone Girl. I will also be finishing The Time Traveler’s Wife soon, so look out for that review as well!

I also have a NEW BLOG TWITTER ACCOUNT, so if you have Twitter and would like to follow me and get some 140 character glances into my life as a bookworm then you can find me under @BookMuffin. You’ll have to bare with me though, it has only just got underway!

Happy Wednesday and Happy Blogging!

Weekly Wednesday Update #17

Untitled

Hi everyone! As you may or may not have seen on my blog, I am on holiday for the next two weeks so I won’t be posting as much. I will try my best to post a weekly update, not necessarily like this, but just an update on what I’m reading and what I’m thinking of it, and maybe some general holiday updates 🙂

Currently Reading:

Organ Reapers (Shay West)

I will be finishing this one later today and it’s getting really, really good! I am definitely enjoying it more than I thought I would…

Bellwether Rhapsody by Kate Racculia

After saying yesterday that I had never read this, despite the hype, I have decided to add it to my TBR. A lot of people commented yesterday saying I should give it a go, so thank you!

Upcoming Reviews

My review of The Flip will be posted later today, and my review of Organ Reapers will either be posted today or tomorrow. From Friday 10th June, I will be on holiday and will not be posting a lot, and I will also not be reading any exchange copies I have to read. My holiday is reserved for personal reading that I have not been able to do for a while!

**Quick Reminder**

July 14th is the much anticipated release date for Go Set A Watchman, the sequel to To Kill A Mockingbird. I just wanted to throw that in here in case anyone had forgotten, and I hope you all enjoy the book if you get the chance to read it, and I look forward to reading the reviews. I may even treat myself to a copy while on holiday…

Weekly Wednesday Update #16

Untitled

Hello fellow bookworms and welcome to another Weekly Wednesday Update. I’ve been having a small reading slump recently, but I am trying to get back into some books as I have so many exchange copies to read and I have set aside my 2 week holiday for personal reading (which I am so excited about!) Enough of my going on, lets get to the bookish stuff…

Currently Reading:

Organ Reapers (Shay West)

This is another exchange eBook I received from Booktrope Publishing who I gave me Saving London to review. This is another fantasy novel with a bit of mystery and crime involved. I’ve only read the first chapter, but I’m getting a very Sherlock/Elementary detective type vibe, which is very good… Hoping this is gonna be a good one!

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

1217100

I started reading this a while ago but never finished it, and I’m not sure why… So many people I know have read and loved the book, but I just couldn’t get into it, but I really want to try again!

What You Left Behind by Jessica Verdi

20933641

I needed to add some more books to my TBR list and I came across this in the ‘Readers Also Enjoyed’ section of Every Last Word. I haven’t read anything else like it since, and I loved it so much that I think I need to read some more in the genre.

Alive by Chandler Baker

23268484

This just sounded like such an amazing story line, a really interesting YA novel. I like to read YA novels when I have reading slumps, because they are usually quite well written and easy to get into, which means they end up being quite fast reads!

Upcoming Reviews

I know some of my lovely blog followers are my friends on Goodreads (if you’re not, but would like to be, come and visit me here) so you may or may not know that I finished The Flip last night, which was my 18th book of the year, so i will be reviewing that very soon. Look out for The Pinterest Collective tomorrow and Feature Follow on Friday!

Weekly Wednesday Update #5

Untitled

Another installment of Weekly Wednesday Update and some of you lovely people said that you might link up and do a post of your own if you could spare a moment, which made me really happy. It was really nice to know people are interested, and I’m not expecting to be a really popular meme, but a few participants would be incredible. If you don’t know what to do, the rules are below:

Rules

  1. Follow BookMuffin (that’s me!- You can follow me on WordPress, Bloglovin’, or email, all located in the sidebar of my blog)
  2. Link up! (I want to see all of your wonderful blog posts, so link up using the comments section below so I can find you and follow some of you too!)
  3. Write your post. It must include:

– What you are currently reading (you can include a picture and description if you want)

– What you have recently added to your TBR list (I use Goodreads, but if you just wanna write a list then that is awesome too!)

– What is upcoming on your blog (Have you got a review planned, an exciting piece of writing, or another meme post coming soon? Tell me and your followers so we can look out for it!)

– That’s it! Just have fun in the making!

Currently Reading:

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (J.K. Rowling)

So I’m about half way through Goblet of Fire, which means I am half way through the Harry Potter series, and I am loving it! I cannot believe I stopped reading them years ago, but I am really pleased I have decided to see the series straight to the end. Goblet of Fire is one of my favourite films, and it is my favourite book so far!

Fifty Shades Freed (E.L James)

Almost there…

The Day We Met by Rowan Coleman

22694050

This was recommended by Goodreads after I finished reading Me Before You, and it sounds amazing. A mother who starts a memory book to attempt to rebuild the fading memories, it just sounded right up my street, so I am very excited to start it!

Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green

17208924

Despite owning all of the John Green books, and enjoying (most of) them, I picked this up and found it incredibly boring. Months later, after reading the description again, I have decided that, even though I did not enjoy it the first time round, things can change. This is now on my reading list for my holiday in the summer, where I have a lovely and relaxing two weeks off!

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

17878931

I have read so many good things about this book on here, and it has been recommended to me several times, so I am going to give it a go. At first, it didn’t really appeal to me, but the praise it has been given sounds amazing, so I am hoping to really like this book!

The Dead Wife’s Handbook by Hannah Beckerman

18623494

The first thing that caught me eye for this book was the gorgeous cover! I mean look at it, it’s so pretty. Ok, so aside from the judging by the cover thing, this sounds like an awesome book! Apart from the fact the book is written from the point of view of a dead person, which was the main thing I read in the description that really attracted me to the book, the story itself sounds like such a page turner!

The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion

16181775

Another book that has been running around in the book blogging network recently, I thought I would jump on the bandwagon. I have heard really good things about this book, so I am very excited to start reading!

After You by Jojo Moyes

24941288

I will apologise in advance for advance for my extreme excitement but OH MY THANK YOU LORD FOR JOJO WRITING A SEQUEL FOR ME BEFORE YOU!! I am really really happy that there is going to be a sequel, and as soon as I heard, I clicked the ‘Want To Read’ button on Goodreads so damn hard! And there’s going to be a MOVIE?! I was completely overwhelmed with excitement! If anyone hasn’t read Me Before You, I suggest you do, because it is an emotional roller-coaster of a book but it is nothing short of amazing!

Read

Ingo and Tide Knot by Helen Dunmore

1022657469954

Do you ever have that feeling when you are doing something completely unrelated to a thought that pops into your head? Well the other day, I had that feeling! I suddenly pictured a familiar scene in my mind and knowing it was not a real place, I thought harder. This was a book! I had remembered a fictional scene from a book, and that book was Ingo! It was thanks to the Scholastic Book Fair that I found this book, which I read a very long time ago now, but I knew straight away I had to add these books to my Read shelf on Goodreads!

Upcoming Reviews

Well, I’m not sure when I will be finishing Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire, although I am plowing through it quicker than I expected, at a faster pace than Prisoner of Azkaban! I am hoping to write a short bookish piece later in the week, but I need to plan it out first! As always, Confessions of a Bookworm coming up a bit later on 🙂
